Specialist Service for a Specialist Insurance Market

Back to Blogs

Within our General Insurance team at IDEX in London, we are continually thinking about how we can improve our service, provide a better offering and ultimately add more value to both our candidates and clients. Mirroring the approach that our Financial Services division have recently taken to specialise in market segments, our London GI Consultants are similarly focusing on more defined areas of the market. Especially in the London Market, insurance is categorise very clearly by product line and discipline; therefore it is a natural conclusion that we each take the lead on certain segments and become the ‘go to point’ and product expert within our team and across the market as a whole.

Personally, I have recruited across the London and Home Counties insurance markets for 10 years covering all product lines, mainly within underwriting and broking but also claims. As a result, I have built a solid and valued network of Brokers, Insurers and MGAs which I will continue to leverage. However Financial/Professional Lines is the area I have always enjoyed the most and gravitated towards. The much-hyped Cyber market is of course buoyant and ever-growing, but we can’t forget the talented PI and D&O professionals who were the bedrock of this market and continue to supply it with talent. Over the last 5 years, I have had increased success with several specialist Financial/Professional Lines Broker and Insurer teams and made multiple placements in the sector. Recent assignments have included a PI Development Executive, a PI Broking Manager, a Cyber Underwriter, a D&O Development Underwriter, a Head of Cyber, an E&O Claims Adjuster and an FI Account Director.

I have also been fortunate enough to become increasingly involved in the Insurtech world, having spent time with many start-up businesses which have emerged in recent years and share in the excitement of how they are shaping the future of our market. Recent Insurtech projects include a Commercial Insurance Product Manager, a Technical Partner Manager and a Financial Lines Sales Manager. Therefore, I have chosen to focus on these market areas and build an even stronger network of contacts and candidates within them. I will then be best placed to meet their needs on both sides and be fully up to date with movements and trends in these markets. I will continue to work across multiple disciplines i.e. broking, underwriting and claims and any other core insurance roles my clients require. In summary, my core product specialisms are now:

  • Professional Indemnity

  • Directors and Officers

  • Financial Institutions

  • Cyber

  • Medical Malpractice

  • Any other niche related segments such as Life science, Product Recall, Crime etc.

  • Insurtech

If you work in any of these product lines and would like to discuss your plans to recruit or move roles, I always welcome a conversation or a coffee.

In my role as Deputy Chair of the IIL Young Member’s Committee I have also been working hard to put together an Insurtech event which is taking place on Tuesday 28th May at the impressive Old Street Microsoft Reactor space. I can promise a fantastic line-up of speakers debating the real application of Insurtech in today’s market.
